SERVICE AREAS
Scotlandville Sports Academy 's primary service area is the North Baton Rouge community and some extended areas of the Greater Baton Rouge community. Ninety percent of the youth who participate in our athletic programs come from the immediate neighborhood of Scotlandville. Scotlandville is an urban African-American neighborhood with pockets of poverty where families' incomes are less than $13,000.00. The majority of our youth is without transportation and walk to the Scotlandville-72nd Street Recreational Park. The Scotlandville-72nd Street Recreational Park is the local recreational park where we coordinate our athletic programs.

Youth living in the North Baton Rouge community have limited access and opportunities to participate in programs to keep them "off the streets" and eliminating idol time consumed in negative behavior. By getting adolescents involved in athletics, we provide not only an outlet for recreation, but also an outlet for leadership. Each year, millions of youth across the nation are involved in organized athletic activities. Studies show that a young person involved in athletics is less likely to get involved with drugs than an uninvolved peer. Athletics provide young people a positive opportunity to get involved and be part of a team, build self-esteem and character, and learn that their futures are too bright to waste on drugs. By providing safe after school and weekend activities, athletics can also help shelter young people from peer and other societal pressures to take drugs. Children who are involved in sports are also protected through mentoring from their coaches. Many of our Nation's strongest adult mentors and role models wear whistles and call plays when they are not teaching lifelong lessons. As mentors, coaches are winners. History shows that the majority of youth look at their coaches and other athletes as role models. These role models have a unique opportunity to present a positive message to deter the negative behaviors (crime, drugs, teen pregnancy, etc.) that are destroying our youth and neighborhoods. The use and sell of illegal drugs is the number one crime being committed against/by the youth of the neighborhood of Scotlandville and the City of Baton Rouge; therefore, our mission and goals are focused on enhancing the lives of these at risk youth, families, and communities through positive alternatives.

The young board leaders of the Scotlandville Sports Academy understand how vital youth development is for the future of our neighborhood, city, state, and country. We understand youth migrate towards athletics, and athletics occupy ninety percent of their lifestyle. It is often said, "If the mountain does not come to you, go to the mountain". Our community based board of neighborhood stakeholders has vested and designed a structured to provide wholesome youth development programs through athletics (basketball, baseball, football, cheerleading, and golf) as well as educational activities through focused gatherings, camps, pep-rallies, and youth leadership training. Scotlandville Sports Academy program goals are simple and direct: Build Leadership; Establish Pride; Develop Character; and Promote Self Discipline. Our motto is the African Proverb: "It Takes A Village To Raise A Child", so our message is clear: "We are organized for these youth, their families, and our community! We have become a village with a purpose!"
